Pad printing uses an indirect printing process to transfer a 2-D image onto a 3-D object. During this printing process, a silicone pad is used to pick up the image from the cliché and transfer it onto the substrate. The three key components of a pad printing machine are the printing plate (cliché), the ink cup, and the pad. The desired image is etched onto the plate, which is then filled with ink. Next, the silicone pad carries the ink from the plate and transfers it onto the substrate.
This process is used across a variety of industries due to its ability to print on uneven or complex substrates and objects that can’t be printed on using traditional printing methods.
