If you’re like most manufacturers, the cost is a significant concern when choosing a plastic injection molder, particularly in times of economic uncertainty and high inflation. Many manufacturers are searching for ways to reduce operational expenses without compromising the quality of their products. Fortunately, tightening your belt doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice quality. AdvanTech Plastics has a unique advantage over other molders that allows it to achieve lower transportation and materials costs that it passes on to its customers. Investing in infrastructure and optimizing material handling processes has allowed us to create a more efficient and cost-effective manufacturing environment.
Rail and Resin Silos Benefit Customers
Our Dillard, CT., facility is conveniently located on a rail spur, allowing us to receive large quantities of resin by rail. We have storage for up to 40 railcars, each capable of holding up to 198,000 pounds of resin. With six resins silos on site, each connected to one railcar, we can store an immense volume of raw material.
This capacity provides two primary advantages. One is taking advantage of hedging and arbitrage opportunities that help control costs. This financial flexibility results in more consistent pricing for our customers, reducing the impact of price volatility in raw materials. The other advantage is our extensive onsite storage capabilities that allows us to have material readily available to meet the demands of our customers, shortening their lead times. Our large-scale resin storage eliminated dependency on frequent shipments, mitigating risks from supply chain disruptions, particularly at a time when shipping delays have been common. As a result of this reliable access to materials, our customers benefit from faster lead times and reduced costs.
Fully Integrated System
In addition to storage capacities, we have incorporated a fully integrated resin material handling system. This system not only saves production time but also improves our facility's overall efficiency. The streamlined material handling system eliminates unnecessary handling steps by incorporating the following movement possibilities:
Rail to silo
Rail to Gaylord
Rail to the molding machine
Silo to Gaylord
Silo to the molding machine
Gaylord to the molding machine
Moving resin seamlessly through these various methods ensures that the materials reach the molding machines quickly, enabling a smooth and efficient transition from raw materials to finished products. As a result, customers experience faster lead times.
Keeping Material Contamination-Free
Contamination in injection molding resins can significantly impact the quality and integrity of the molded part. An advantage of our integrated material handling system is that it features an elutriation system that separates potential contaminates from the resin based on particle size using an upward airflow. Clean resin provides a better-quality product, as contamination can lead to defects in the plastic product, such as delamination. By ensuring that only the highest-quality resin enters our molding machines, we can deliver a final product that meets your expectations.
